Finishing Your Furniture - Nassau Furniture Store

Factory Finished
Wood You Finished & Unfinished Furniture offers a wide selection of already finished furniture in a variety of different colors from our manufacturers who offer finished product.

Unfinished
In addition, we offer an outstanding selection of unfinished furniture, which is our specialty. Many of our customers choose to finish their own furniture, which can help make their selections even more affordable, offers the satisfaction of their own workmanship, and gives the option of utilizing colors we may not carry. We sell high quality American made finishing supplies from General Finishes in Wisconsin.

Custom Finished
We are happy to finish your new furniture for you if that is your preference, and hope you will enjoy it for years to come. We use the same quality products that we sell in our store; offering 31 stain and 20 paint colors. Your furniture will be ready to use when you receive it from us. However, the topcoat will be fully cured in 30 days. We ask that you treat it gently for the first month for this reason.

Here are the steps we follow:

  • First, the piece is examined and necessary disassembly done. All drawers, doors and hardware parts are numbered and labeled to insure they go back to the right place when reassembled.
  • Next, hand and power sanding is performed to insure a smooth and flawless surface to receive the finish. Any imperfections are filled or treated at this time.
  • The stain is hand applied, or if you have chosen paint, the color is sprayed on.
  • With a stained item, when thoroughly dry, the first topcoat is evenly sprayed over the colored surface. After drying completely, the entire piece is hand buffed and then hand rubbed to remove dust. This process is repeated for a total of 3 coats of topcoat.
  • With paint finishes, 2-3 coats of paint and one topcoat layer are applied with hand buffing and rubbing between each coat.

No matter what your finishing preference, whether choosing a piece that is already finished, doing it yourself, or enlisting us to do it for you, feel assured that we strive to offer quality and value you will be happy with for years to come.

Finishes For Furniture

Chalk Style Paints | Water Based

Chalk Style Paint from General Finishes is a casual, chalky interior matte paint with a color palette inspired by American favorites, British tradition and Scandinavian hues that complement GF's Milk Paint line.

Dye Stains | Water Based

Dye stains penetrate deep into the wood, highlight the grain and add a depth and vibrancy unlike any other General Finishes stain. Create custom colors by intermixing; tone by mixing with a GF waterbased topcoat; or layer beneath waterbased wood stain or gel stain. Dye stains work beautifully over figured woods such as birds-eye maple, mahogany and walnut.

Exterior 450 Wood Stain | Water Based

Exterior 450 Wood Stains contain U.V. absorbers that stabilize the finish and mildewcides to retard mold. For exterior use only, these stains work well on outdoor projects such as patio furniture, outdoor kitchens, garage doors, entrance doors and fences. They can be applied with a brush, roller or by spraying. GF does not recommend this finish for use on outdoor decks or oily wood species such as Ipe and Teak.

Gel Stains | Oil Based

General Finishes Gel Stains are heavy-bodied and pigment rich, providing the richest, deepest color of any oil based stain. They do not penetrate wood as much as liquid oil-based stains, making them an excellent choice for difficult-to-stain woods such as pine or aspen. Intermix for a custom color; layer over dye stain for vibrant undertones. Always seal gel stain with topcoat. For indoor projects only.

Glaze Effects | Water Based

Glaze Effects from General Finishes are translucent colors ideal for decorative applications such as glazing and distressing. These colors can be intermixed or layered and perform well over GF Milk Paint, Chalk Style Paint, stains and topcoats.

Liquid Wood Stains | Oil Based

General Finishes Oil Based Wood Stains have been a standard for liquid oil based stains since 1928. They are for indoor projects only and are made with the highest-quality oils, pigments and resins.

Milk Paints | Water Based

Milk Paint is a premium indoor and outdoor paint. It comes pre-mixed and is UV resistant. Not a true, old-world "casein-based milk paint," but a modern, mineral-based version with excellent flow and leveling. WARNING: TEST FOR COMPATIBILITY WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT WITH PRODUCTS FROM OTHER BRANDS.

Pearl Effects Paints | Water Based

Pearl Effects are acrylic pearlescent, metallic paints. They can be thinned for glazing and textured applications, or used straight from the can for a solid look. WARNING: TEST FOR COMPATIBILITY WHEN USING THIS PRODUCT WITH PRODUCTS FROM OTHER BRANDS.

Wood Stains | Water Based

Water Based Wood Stains from General Finishes spread easily, are repairable, intermixable, and have excellent open time. The thicker formula allows controlled penetration, which will reduce blotching on softer woods such as Aspen, Pine and Maple.
